The Beehive's Fifth Installment in their Continuing Art Series
The Beehive's Fifth Installment in their Continuing Art SeriesCome see the 5th installment in The Beehive's continuing art series entitled, Sting! 5: Pop Rocks, curated by Evelyn Rydz and featuring the work of artists Ben Sloat, Gina Dawson, Heidi Cody, Elisa Johns, Scott Listfield, Tanit Sakakini, Jonathan Santos, Jeffu Warmouth and Jowhara AlSaud.
The artists in Sting! 5 Pop Rocks blend elements of consumer and popular culture with their own personal visual vocabularies. The work juxtaposes traditional approaches with digitally manipulated modes of creating, extending from sewing, painting, photography, and sculpture to installation. Like the candy, the work in Pop Rocks initially offers a visual taste of sweetness and play, subsequently releasing pockets of more complex surprises.
Throughut Sting! 5: Pop Rocks, The Beehive will proudly premier Kenwood Vineyard’s limited release Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series 2004, with labeling created by artist Shephard Fairey (who currently has a solo exhibition at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art). In sync with one of the core motivations behind The Beehive’s art program, Fairey believes that art is not only intended for galleries and museums but should also be an integral part of the visual landscape. There will be bottles on exhibit at The Beehive and available for purchase for $150.00 a bottle, inviting guests to “consume their art” (and take the artist's label bottle home with them!).

The Beehive Sting! Series:
The Beehive Sting! Series is an on-going art series that presents the diversity of art now. The goal is to find work of the moment that is engaging, challenging and exciting, providing viewers with a broad exposure to contemporary art and providing artists a chance to get outside of the white box. Unlike a gallery or museum, The Beehive is not limited by the confines of an aesthetic agenda and can select a variety of innovative work. The Beehive recently received the award for The Best Non-Gallery Art Space from The Boston Phoenix.
