Best known for his big band songs such as "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" and "Rose Room," the legendary composer filled the world with tunes in a genre of their own, and of which he called "American Music." An equally notable, pianist and big band leader, Ellington continued to rock the stage despite the decline of big band popularity during his time. After devoting his life to groundbreaking music, Ellington won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 1966.
